From Territory to Destination Development
Coolvoyage Destinations approaches sustainable destination development from the territory outward.
A destination should not begin by asking only: How can we attract more visitors? It should first ask: What resources define this territory? What condition are they in? What pressures affect them? What value do they create for residents and visitors? What form of tourism development can the territory sustain over time?
This perspective is particularly relevant to Sardinia. The island’s visitor economy depends on natural and cultural assets that cannot be separated from the systems that maintain them: marine and coastal ecosystems, water resources, landscapes, settlements, public infrastructure, local economies and communities. Tourism is one user of those systems; it is not external to them.
